Kevin Meehan Tin Whistle
Widely recognised as one of Ireland’s finest tin whistle players and a leading voice in contemporary traditional music, Kevin Meehan has earned critical acclaim both in Ireland and abroad for his distinctive style and original compositions. Praised by the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance as “an exceptional musician… making real and impactful music that is leading a new, creative direction for traditional Irish music,” and described by The Duncairn Irish Arts Centre as “one of the best whistle players in Ireland,” Kevin continues to shape the future of the tradition.
His debut album, Spanish Point (2020), was described by Irish Music Magazine as an “exquisite collaboration of sound.” Tracks from Spanish Point and his follow-up project Solar Grove have received extensive national airplay on RTÉ Radio 1 and BBC Radio Ulster.
In August 2019, Kevin performed his original compositions to a live audience of over 40,000 at Croke Park during the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final halftime show — a milestone that reflects both his calibre as a performer and the growing public reach of his music.
In 2024, Kevin released two original singles and music videos — Rust From The Storm and Pontoon — as part of Solar Grove, his latest musical venture, which captured the attention of thousands of listeners online.
Kevin’s influence in Irish music education continues to grow. He is featured as a key artist in the Mol an Óige 1 Junior Certificate Irish textbook (2nd Edition), and in March 2025 was highlighted by District Magazine as one of twelve renowned Irish acts keeping the tradition alive.
Most recently, in 2025, Kevin’s Solar Grove live band made its debut to a full house at Howth Trad Fest, further cementing his place as a dynamic performer and innovative voice in the Irish traditional scene.
